This was the 2nd combined Chica/M&M ride of the season. For those of you who don’t know the origins of the 2 rides, let me share….the Chica rides started out for women only who were new to mountain biking and wanted to learn the trails in the area. About the same time the Chica rides were started, a new FooMTB member, Jim Mosley, offered to start up a low-key Tuesday ride called “Timid Tuesday Ride”. He took the name from rides he used to lead in Los Alamos. While Jim hasn’t been around enough this year to lead rides, he graced us with his presence at the end of the ride tonight. He was on his way to get his ice hockey skates sharpened.
Well, long story short, the Chicas and Timid Tuesday crew started riding together. Randy, one our popular attendees, said “There was no way in heck I’m gonna ride any Timid Tuesday Ride”, so he was tasked with changing the name. Jim, being the great guy he is, always brought along M&Ms on the ride to entice more riders to join. It was working well, by the way.
Anyway, Randy suggested that we call the Timid Tuesday ride the “M&M Ride” instead, and the rest is history. Well, Jim is like Santa Claus, he can’t show up anywhere without bringing a gift, so of course he had some sweet morsels for us at the end of the ride…
So, the Foothills were great this evening. We had some cloud cover and a slight breeze, making it cool, but nice! While most of the trails are pretty dry now, there are still a couple of areas where water still exists…an unusual occurrence that has been more prevalent over the past year.
The ride was a blast! I got in all the intervals I needed for the evening, and enjoyed the company of other riders.
Stats for the ride:
- 13 miles, 1 hr. 45 min.
- Max speed 25 mph
- Max heart rate 177 (I seem to be able to get a higher HR on the MTB than on the road, which is interesting; I was able to hit 170 on almost all of my intervals
- Total elevation 1237 ft

It was great seeing everyone Bettina looks like a real biker know!!!
It’s great to see folks really get into biking! The even cooler part is how Bettina and Shawn are now our new ride leaders. That is really cool!
