Summer is here, and that means it’s time to escape the heat in Albuquerque and get to Santa Fe. Last weekend Matt and I headed to SF…Matt’s plan was to ride the Santa Fe Big Friggin Loop, and my plan was to do a much shorter ride. It was a beautiful day!
I parked at Big Tesuque so we’d have it at a great re-watering point. Pulled out the bike and rolled down the road to the Chamisa Trailhead. I rode Chamisa to Windsor to Borrego to Big Tesuque. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so didn’t get any pics of the first part of my ride. The trails are in excellent condition. Nice, smooth, packed dirt with great climbs! I got a pic of the waterfall just before you pop out on Hyde Park Road.

I started up Aspen Vista Road as the clouds began rolling in. Every time I’ve tried to complete this road (in the last about 2 years at least) I’ve been rained out. I did NOT want to get rained out again!

I rode quickly in order to make it to the ski area.
I got sprinkles along the way and used the rain jacket periodically, but for the most part was dry until the top. At the top, I got hail, ouch! I took a few pics on the way back down, just to capture what the place looks like when I’m not skiing on it.
After that, I rode as fast as I could back to the car, catching lots of air on the way down. It was actually pretty fun!
