Breck 100 is over, and wow, was it a blast! Sue, Lyn and I made up the 3-woman BWR relay team. Sue took lap 1, Lyn lap 2, and me lap 3. Together, we got first place.
Okay, there were no other 3-woman teams, but hey, we still earned the awards!
RESULTS
Breck was a fun venue. We had a 2-bedroom condo downtown, close to the venue. A tad on the noisy side in the evenings as the drunks were heading back to their hotels, but a nice place overall.
BWR represented well with Matt getting 1st place singlespeed, and Lenny, Donnie, and Doug riding well too on the geared bikes. Lenny and Donnie completed the Breck 100, and Doug completed the Breck 68!
I’ve always crewed at this event, and finally getting the chance to take in some of the scenery was quite nice. Lap 3 had a lot of climbing on dirt roads, something I tend to do pretty well. There was great scenery as I approached Boreas Pass. Then I had some super sweet singletrack that kept me smiling along the way. I added 5 miles onto my route by taking a wrong turn. I followed some other racers rather than looking for the trail markings. Stupid decision, but lesson learned. We lost about 30 minutes looking at the route directions and getting back on track. I ended up with 41 miles for lap 3. While I was bummed by the wrong turn, I was pretty happy with how I did on the lap. I felt remarkably good and didn’t experience any serious issues riding above 10K elevation most of the time. I guess the best part of all was that I was able to ride this with two great friends, Lyn and Sue. I’d definitely do this or any other event later on down the road with these girls!

Congrats, you 3 did well representing BWR and opicking up a great win!
Ahhh…Boreas Pass. I feel like I was there just yesterday. Good job out there and sounds like BWR did good all around. Nice!
Mary
Nice job Jeni! Do I detect the remnants of an IPA in that glass?
Chris
Hmmmm, you caught me…a used glass.
Boreas Pass? Yep, I thought of you while out there, Mary! Every time I drive through Cuba, NM I think of you too. That must have been one of the less exciting places to bike through on your journey.
P.S. The beer glass is mine.
